You and I can be part of a solution to one of the biggest challenges of our lifetimes. We don’t have to wait for corporations and governments to agree. We can crowdfund climate change. Now.

We are planting hope. The iGiveTrees campaign has given nearly 5,000 trees back to an endangered rainforest in Brazil, through social networking. And, we have the relationships in place to increase our impact vastly, as long as you help us share the message.

Not only are we making a positive effect on the planet’s climate, but also supporting a whole network of social entrepreneurs who are gathering seeds, growing trees organically, and teaching people how to plant and maintain them. These unknown heros are doing global environmental service work for us all.

My name is Alana Lea, the creator of this social enterprise. I love this process, so today I’m asking you to join me in an easy call to action, to make a real positive impact!

If everyone who reads this would give at least one tree – and ask 3 friends to do the same – we would be able to replace hundreds of acres of forest.

Just $5 plants and maintains an organically grown rainforest tree for two years.

Here’s a bit more of the story behing it all…

Some people call me “a real world Lorax.” Like the Lorax in the storybook, I speak for the trees.

When I learned that 93% of the Brazilian rainforest where I was born has disappeared, I moved into action by starting a reforestation project with rural partners. When you help me to give the Gift of Trees, they go to subsistence farm families to plant on their deforested land.

You are actually supporting an entire grassroots network of social enterprises: sustainable seed harvesters, an association of organic tree nurseries, small NGOs and farm families who live on degraded land. Together, we are the stewards of the planet’s precious natural resources.

We plant trees…thousands of trees…with a goal of millions of trees. This reforestation process supports global cooling, the return of wildlife and Nature’s biodiversity. And our hundreds of species of tropical trees have a better chance of growing to maturity, faster, able to sink more carbon than trees planted in the backyards of the Northern Hemisphere.

These non-tax-deductible “crowd funding” donations make the purchase and distribution of these trees possible, at no cost to the recipients. We work directly with small, local NGO partners in the community who are focused on teaching organic agroforestry in targeted areas of need.

Since 2009, we’ve been able to plant 4,700 trees back in the rainforest and have the capacity to do hundreds of times more over the next few years.
